Does Chronic Stress Play a Role in Increasing Your Cancer Risk as well as Improving Survivor-ship? By Elizabeth Repasky, PhD
Have you ever noticed that following a stressful situation you catch a cold or come down with the flu? While it has been recognized for decades that the immune response to infections can be depressed by certain types of chronic stress, recently a role for the immune system in controlling cancer has been revealed by researchers. These exciting findings may help to explain the growing realization of an ominous role for chronic stress in cancer progression. This talk will highlight new research demonstrating the importance of the immune system in controlling cancer, define ways in which chronic stress can impair our “anti-tumor” immunity or our response to immunotherapy, and discuss what we might be able to do about it!
