Becoming a Creator on the Canal.
Selling at the Canal is quite easy, however this is a limited marketplace. In order to ensure a well-balanced event, not every seller who applies will be guaranteed participation. For consideration, submit your application for the 2019 season by April 28th, 2019. Applicants will be notified of their status by May 1st, 2019.
If accepted, your payment will be invoiced with a due date of May 24th, 2019. A seasonal discount package fee of $400 applies for all vendors who commit to the entire series. For each Sunday you choose, a $50 weekly fee will apply. Additionally, Canalside Management will assist in obtaining your required City of Buffalo vendor permit at a fee of $40.00 for the entire season regardless of how many dates you are committed.
All products must be screened and accepted before being sold at the Canal. The general guidelines are:
- Items and selections must be handmade, grown, gathered or curated by the artist/vendor/creator, cost a member of their immediate family living in New York, or a partner in craft living in New York.
- The creator’s contribution to a finished product must outweigh the contribution of any commercial components used in the making of that product. Skills in craftsmanship, as well as creative abilities, ingenuity and design skills are examples of artist contribution.
- The product must meet basic expectations of product life, function, and safety.
You MUST have a New York State tax ID number to sell at the Canal.
At Creators on the Canal, the Creator must be the Seller. A helper may help the Creator in the booth, and may cover the booth alone while the Creator takes reasonable breaks during the day.
Applicants MUST submit links to examples of their work via the Vendor Application or email to Info@CanalsideBuffalo.com.
Only creators who pre-registered and pre-paid will be allowed to set up to sell at Creators on the Canal. All spaces are pre-assigned and space assignments will be emailed in advance of market day. All of the spaces are 10×12. Electricity is not guaranteed.
Each creator must provide their own sturdy, professional tent. A blue or white canopy is preferred. Staking of tents is neither allowed nor possible, as we set up on a hard surface. Vendors are required to bring adequate weights (at least 100 lbs., 25 lbs. for each corner) due to sometimes windy conditions on the waterfront. THIS IS MANDATORY!
You are responsible for all display materials, tables and chairs as needed. The elements & potential wind should be considered when planning your display.
All creators are encouraged to demonstrate how their art is created. We understand that not every studio is portable but if there is some aspect of the process that can be demonstrated that should be incorporated into your set up.
PERFORM AT THE CANAL:
We are looking for performers to contribute to the Creators on the Canal experience. Performers must be able to supply their own equipment (We can provide a basic PA system) and play at least a 45-minute set with the understanding that the music will be played at an appropriate level for a family friendly event. You’ll be under a tent, with electricity provided.
If you’d like to be considered, apply here! You can send any questions you may have to Info@CanalsideBuffalo.com.
